The foundation's purpose is to lend historical and other valuable musical instruments to professional or amateur musicians of a professional caliber, enabling them to play these instruments and making them accessible to the public. The instruments are to be awarded in such a way that there is a connection to the Basel region or Switzerland, which is particularly the case if the beneficiary musicians reside in Switzerland, study in Switzerland, or perform with the instrument in concerts in Switzerland. The instruments are generally loaned free of charge, although the beneficiary musicians are responsible for the costs of regular maintenance and insurance. To enable the foundation to lend such instruments, it enters into long-term agreements with the owners of these instruments. The foundation actively promotes the achievement of its purpose.
