Mission
The foundation pursues its purpose in three areas of activity: The first area aims to improve living conditions in a world threatened by numerous risks and therefore includes, in particular, the promotion of climate protection and environmental protection in Switzerland and abroad, and especially the protection of the world's oceans; combating poverty and its consequences, such as lack of education, malnutrition, and the like, in Switzerland and abroad; and supporting economically disadvantaged regions and communities in Switzerland. The second area of activity aims to promote, support, and recognize creative activities, especially those of children and young people, but also of adults, as a counterbalance to the flood of images and media in our time. In particular, financial resources should be provided for children and young people of all nationalities in Switzerland, but also in other European countries, enabling them to participate in theater, music, visual arts, and other activities. This includes hiring and paying specially trained teachers. The foundation also supports the specialized training of teachers suitable for this purpose and efforts to disseminate and improve art education. The third area of activity aims to promote human health, for example, by supporting the disabled, the chronically ill, etc. This purpose also includes providing assistance to landmine victims and the disposal of landmines. Within this scope, grants may be made for buildings where people feel safe and well cared for, as well as contributions towards equipment and medical and therapeutic devices. Suffering and needy people should also be helped with alternative healing methods and with therapies of a physical or psychological nature that are otherwise unaffordable or difficult to access. Within this area of activity, grants may also be made towards the costs of nursing staff. Organizations that care for released prisoners, such as the Zurich Foundation for Prisoner and Ex-Offender Welfare, should also be supported. Within all three areas of activity, donations may also be made to charitable institutions active in the respective fields; the board of trustees is free in the allocation of funds. There is no obligation to pursue all of the aforementioned objectives or to support them equally. The allocation of funds between projects in Switzerland and abroad is also at the discretion of the Board of Trustees; the Board of Trustees is required to use the funds for specific projects; only institutions and organizations that pursue charitable purposes of a humanitarian, ecological, and cultural nature in Switzerland and abroad, and exclusively on a non-profit basis, may receive financial support. To achieve its purpose in the three areas of activity, the Foundation may, in particular, finance existing projects worthy of support; initiate projects by providing funding; and collaborate with other organizations or institutions with comparable objectives. Article 3 of the Foundation's statutes may be further elaborated by Regulations I.
